Green Initiatives

A primary goal of the Islas Secas management is to operate with an environmentally friendly approach at all times, and we are committed to maintaining and building on these efforts with our new facilities and programs.

In addition to our onsite operations we continue to work with the local community on the mainland to help keep Panama beautiful. A few ways we achieve these goals include:

  • Use of solar power to offset some energy needs
  • Compost all organic material (to be implemented in near future)
  • No plastic water bottles on the island – pure filtered water is offered and each guest is provided a BPA-free water bottle
  • Development of an organic farm on the island
  • Teaming up with Project AWARE to clean local beaches
  • Joining efforts with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Instituteís Shark Tagging and Monitoring Project in the Islas Secas Archipelago and Coiba National Park to gather data on white tip shark migrations and growth patterns
  • Installation of moorings on all dive and snorkeling sites to reduce damage to coral reefs

The Islas Secas Sport fishing team also contributes to these efforts by practicing a strict catch and release policy for all Billfish. We also do our best to tag all Billfish released, in connection with our work with The Billfish Foundation.
