Panama is famous for its birding and there’s nowhere better than our protected islands.

With over 100 species of resident and migratory birds, guests can spot a huge range of exotic species around Islas Secas. A highlight is boating over to Isla Coco, part of our archipelago, for thrilling views of one of Panama’s largest colonies of soaring frigatebirds, as well as rare brown-footed boobies and peregrine falcons.

Birding 101

Take a guided tour on our groomed trails, then add your sightseeing to eBird, the largest citizen science program in the world. Kids are well catered for, with specialist child-friendly birding tours.

Frigatebird Monitoring

Islas Secas is home to the second-largest colony of soaring frigatebirds in Panama, and we are proud of our long-time research project into these magnificent birds. At particular times of the year, our guests are invited to join our experts in the Gulf of Chiriquí to count the nesting birds and assist this vital ongoing research.
