Islas Secas Stars in Architectural Digest
“At Islas Secas resort, a breathtaking new villa takes its cues from local scenery.“
Our latest offering, the spectacular Casa Cavada, has been featured in the world-leading title, Architectural Digest.
We are thrilled to share news of wonderful coverage of Casa Cavada in this month’s esteemed issue of Architectural Digest (AD). Photographer Douglas Friedman’s striking images have perfectly captured the architectural impact of Islas Secas’s headline act, as well as bringing to life the raw, natural beauty of our archipelago.
“Immersion in nature is the name of the game,” the article begins, then gushes about our “forested wonderland where the Pacific Ocean extends in all directions.” The writer captures the essence of Islas Secas’s Tom Scheerer-designed Casitas that “epitomize carefree tropical living.”

Whitley Esteban and Ernesto Gloria of Studio Tre are highlighted as the design force behind Casa Cavada, Panama’s most extraordinary private luxury residence, which melds with the surrounding landscape and features an astounding manta-ray-shaped roof.

“Everything about these islands informed the design,” says Gloria, who, as the article elaborates, spent many hours exploring the archipelago to fully appreciate the true soul of Islas Secas. “Clay from the ground, a leaf from a tree, the warm greens and ochres found throughout the landscape – these were our inspirations.” That local influence is certainly evident in Casa Cavada, which perfectly combines contemporary chic with indigenous influences – from coral stone sourced from the archipelago, to the traditional mola textiles by the Indigenous Guna community. As Gloria explains, “You feel like an explorer here, tapping into the raw nature all around you.”
