Experience a Living Seascape, All Year Round

At Islas Secas, nature doesn’t follow a traditional calendar. Located within major migratory corridor in Panama’s Gulf of Chiriquí, the islands move through three dynamic seasons shaped by ocean currents.

Every season reveals a powerful shift. From the arrival of the whales to the migration of birds and the turn of the forests, each season is shaped by the rhythms of nature, always offering something unique and extraordinary.

Seasons of Secas

Each season reveals a different side of this part of the Eastern Tropical Pacific – and extraordinary ways for guests to explore its spectacular, living seascape.

Renewal Season
January through March

Calm seas and exceptional underwater visibility reveal reefs entering spawning cycles, while manta rays gather and pelagic species, including marlin and sailfish, move through offshore waters. North-south bird migrations pass overhead, and on land, forest canopies begin to open as nature trees flower.

Best for: snorkeling and scuba diving in vibrant reefs, offshore sport fishing and guided island hikes and forest exploration.

Return Season
April through September

Nutrient-rich upwellings fuel plankton blooms, attracting schooling fish, hammerhead sharks, and other migratory megafauna. Blue-footed boobies nest along island edges, orchids bloom across the forest, and lunar cycles trigger mass crab migrations. From July through September, humpback whales arrive to breed and calve in sheltered bays.

Best for: migratory whale watching, tailor-made Marine Safaris, inshore fishing and wildlife exploration by sea.

Reset Season
October through December

Powerful lunar tides reshape shorelines, reef recover, southbound bird migrations pass through, and frigatebirds begin courtship displays. Glassy seas, dramatic sunsets, and clear night skies return, offering moments of stillness before the cycle begins again.

Best for: sunset cruises, wellness-led stays, forest hikes through vibrant green canopies and multi-generational escapes.
