Want to know what it’s actually like to experience a private island buyout on Islas Secas? We spoke to a secret guest, Mr M, who took over the whole resort with his family. Here’s what happened…

“The photos do not do it justice,” Mr M told us. “This is the best location possible, with a phenomenal volcanic setting and 14 private islands.” Mr M was talking about Islas Secas, which he recently took over as a private island buyout for his family. “The experience really brought the family together. We were able to get to know each other better.”

Things started as spectacularly as he’d hoped. After arrival, a show-around of their new private island home and time to settle into the selection of Casitas, guests were treated to a choice of watersports and spa treatments in the Secascent Spa, followed by a mixology session.

Then it was time for a welcome dinner beneath the soaring, open-air room of Terraza. “The food was really excellent,” said Mr M, and he was impressed by how flexible it was, with different dietary requirements catered for without issue.

The group was treated to a bespoke itinerary, crafted in advance and leaving lots of space for flexibility, where everyone could do as much – or as little – as they wished. “The staff were absolutely incredible,” explained Mr M. “No is not in their vocabulary.”

While some opted for yoga by the extraordinary infinity pool, Panamanian cooking lessons or scuba diving with our expert guide, others chose an exhilarating fishing trip. “I caught a 40-lb red snapper,” enthused Mr M, which was then transformed by the chefs into the freshest sashimi.

“The beach BBQ was something else,” said Mr M about a surprise private beach day arranged by the team. “The beach was 200m long, there was volleyball, a bar, scuba diving, five people cooking for us – this was one of the highlights.”

And according to Mr M, the children had the time of their lives and everything was taken care of. “They loved it. They were exhausted every night. They ate at the end of the table then peeled off with the yoga teacher who would take them to bed.” Everyone found the resort incredibly easy to get to. “It’s a one-hour ten-minute flight, and you are there – in paradise.”

Having a bespoke vacation on Islas Secas was, he said, exactly what the family needed. “I honestly could not have made a better investment in my family than this trip – we arrived a little fractured and we got home so connected.”
