What do you love about working at Islas Secas?
My job is to entertain and educate, always with a focus on conservation and sustainability – and always with a sense of fun. I love having the privilege of working and living in a true natural treasure.
Where is your favorite spot on the islands?
On the main island I love Vista Buena for the peace and beauty it offers, and Playa Canales for its incredible beauty and numerous stories. My favorite spot is Barracuda Island because of its interesting vibes and mysteries.
What do you love showing guests the most?
Teaching them everything I can at the right time, taking into account that different natural events occur at different times in this spectacular place.
Do you have a favorite species? Why?
I am fascinated by crabs and their incredible diversity at Islas Secas. Gecarcinus quadratus (Halloween Crab) is my favorite species on the islands.
Describe your perfect day for a family vacation on Islas Secas
An early morning kayaking session followed by an E-foil or wakesurfing class, and finally culminating with a nature walk on one of our beautiful trails to contemplate the sunset.
What would you say makes a good guide?
A good guide could have several qualities but leadership, management and interpretation of information are among the most important.
Tell us a bit about your background
I studied tourism at the University of Panama and had the opportunity to gain experience within the world of conservation. Before becoming part of the Islas Secas family, I worked with numerous companies as a naturalist guide and visited different spectacular places throughout this beautiful country.
Islas Secas has a strong conservation ethic. Why is conserving the environment at Islas Secas so important?
I must say first of all that conserving the environment throughout our country should be a priority. Here at Islas Secas; the geological and ecological history of the archipelago plays a very significant role — both in the survival of numerous species that live here, and for those that visit or migrate as part of the very important and unique Eastern-Tropical Pacific biological corridor.
